Burford

Burford is a sucker for what he thinks is a bargain. A garage sale, and thrift store addict, he buys things he doesn’t need--thinking he can fix them and sell at a profit. He always ends up selling for very little at his own sale. He’s also a sucker for street hucksters.

He dreams of being a hero (Walter Mittie style)

His desire to be a stable provider, but actually craves adventure.

Urdie

Doing things for her family makes her happy. She thinks another child would have made her even happier, but Burford was always completely against it. Yet, he has been a good father to Moonroy. Burford’s intense dislike of her father—without cause, as far as she knows—makes her angry. She thinks her greatest accomplishment was saving her marriage once Burford found out she was pregnant with Moonroy. Burford never wanted children. Handling of finances is her greatest weakness. She—like Burford—is gullible and naive when it comes to money. Both are suckers for just about any sales pitch.

Moonroy

He is in his early teens and acts like it. He wants to be accepted by peers, so he, listens to hip-hop ‘music’, talks like his friends talk, and behaves the way they do.. He wants to (and thinks he does) look like Hoby Gupper –his favorite hip-hop artist. Most of his time is devoted to doing things he hopes will make him look “cool”. He often overdoes a show of self confidence.

Morty

He genuinely likes people, and most people like him. He was married to Urdella’s mother for nearly 50 years, and Urdella was their only child. It is quite apparent that Burford doesn’t like him—never has, but Morty doesn’t know why.
